Sewing Boxes / Sewing Storage

Sewing is a super popular hobby, enjoyed by young and old alike. It's also a form of needlework that can quickly satisfy your creative urges, as you can make everything from teddy bears for the little ones in your family to designing your own clothes. Sewing is thus a versatile hobby through which you can really channel your creative energies.

However, as with many creative hobbies, you can quickly accumulate an array of different tools and materials that can be difficult to keep track of. That's why it can be a great idea to get yourself a sewing box or boxes, so you can easily find all your dots and things when you need them.

What kind of sewing box should you choose?

"The dear child has many names"; this is an old saying that applies perfectly to sewing boxes. They go by many different names, such as sewing boxes, sewing cases and sewing boxes. This can be confusing if you haven't looked for a sewing box before, but all the names more or less cover the same thing; namely a box/box/bin or similar in which you can store your sewing tools and materials.

It can often be a good idea to have more than one sewing box, so that you can keep your sewing thread in one and your needles, buttons and other small items in another.

However, there are a lot of different designs of sewing boxes, so it's just a matter of finding one that suits your own intentions with the box. Below, you can get an insight into some of the boxes you can find at our shop, and the benefits of the different designs.

Plastic sewing box

Sewing boxes that are made out of plastic are often called sewing boxes or even sewing tool boxes. These types of sewing boxes vary greatly in their shapes and designs, with some boxes looking a bit like a lunchbox, while others look like outright toolboxes.

One of the big advantages of plastic sewing boxes is that they are often not as heavy as sewing boxes made out of wood are. So if you have a lot of tools or even several sewing boxes that you often have to take out of the house, you won't have to lift as much weight if you choose a plastic sewing box.

In addition, plastic sewing boxes often include boxes that are divided into small compartments. These storage boxes are super easy to store buttons, needles, beads, or whatever else you have lying around.

Sewing boxes in wood

If you prefer a slightly more classic look, then a sewing box made of wood is definitely the one to go for. When many people picture a sewing box, they probably see the classic design, which has three to five compartments divided into three "floors" that you access by pulling the compartments out to the side. This is precisely the design of many wooden sewing boxes.

As I said, the sewing boxes may be a little heavier than the plastic boxes, but they are extremely decorative to have on display in the home. At the same time, a single box offers plenty of storage space as they contain so many different compartments, making it easy to sort your materials so that they are easy to find when you need them.

Wire boxes

When you like to sew, there's one thing in particular that you tend to get a lot of together; namely thread rolls. The round and elongated shape of the reels can make them a little difficult to store, as well as tending to fill up your sewing box, leaving you with no room for all your other small tools.

Fortunately, you can also get sewing boxes that are designed specifically for thread storage. These boxes are often called thread boxes, and it's possible to get them for both regular thread rolls and for your spools. Thread boxes are also available in a range of sizes, so you can store many spools of thread in one place.

Sewing boxes can serve many purposes

Although sewing boxes are mainly designed to store sewing tools, that is certainly far from the only use for these handy boxes. Almost no matter what creative hobby you're into, you can use a sewing box to store your creative stuff. These can include crochet hooks, knitting needles, beads, knitting yarn, charms, wire, brushes, paper and much more.

If you tend to have a lot of creative projects going on at once, sewing boxes can also be a great way to keep track of the different pieces for your project. For example, you could have a box for your patchwork and another box for your knitting. You can even use the pretty wooden sewing boxes as a jewellery box, if that's what you're missing the most.

The sewing boxes, which are made of wood, are even available in a neutral white colour, which allows you to be creative with the box itself. For example, you could choose to paint your sewing box a fresh colour, or perhaps glue some pretty stones or beads onto the box. In this way, you can personalise your sewing box to match your own style.
