Give your mourning letters a little extra punch with a set of delicious paper punches. Of course, there are other uses for the cute irons, which allow you to cut out little shapes in different colours of paper without having to grab scissors or a knife.
It's a fun thing to do with little ones, because there's no risk of getting hurt with sharp tools, and because creating beautiful and complicated shapes doesn't require great motor skills.
What is a punch?
They look like little clippers at first glance and work a bit like an old-fashioned caulking machine - just a bit fancier. Punching machines come in all sorts of different shapes, so you can create anything from snowflakes to classic stars or circles.
You can use any kind of paper to create your artwork, and there's the option to use both the die-cut shapes and the paper you cut them from, so it's double the fun. Punching dies come in all sizes and shapes, so you can easily create fun, cute and beautiful artwork with all kinds of shapes.
What can you do with punches?
You can use the irons in two different ways. Either you can use them to cut out shapes to be used for something else, or to decorate paper in beautiful patterns. Some fun things you can do are:
Garland of punched circles
If you have a pile of different paper scraps lying around, you can turn them into the most beautiful paper garlands in no time. All you need is:
- Punch circle - one or more sizes
- Sewing machine
- Thread
- Paper in different colours and patterns
Cut out circles in different sizes and colours and lay them out on the floor. Preferably several on top of each other and different colours mixed together. Now sew the paper circles together with 3-5cms spacing (or whatever you see fit) and you have the finest paper garlands for decoration.
Picture frame with cut-out shapes
Find a piece of heavy card or mica paper and cut a frame in the desired size. Now use various punches to punch out shapes in the cardboard all along the frame. Leave gaps where you don't punch, glue the shapes in place and fold up the sides or edges to create a 3D effect. Glue a piece of cardboard to the back by spreading glue along the edge on three sides (not the top), and glue it together. Now you can change the image as often as you like.
